The Aristotle Difference…
- Aristotle is a tuition-free public charter school located in the safe Coulwood neighborhood in Charlotte, NC. For the 2020–2021 school year, we will serve students in kindergarten through seventh grade.
- Aristotle students work hard and meet growth in both reading and math during the last testing cycle, raising the school’s letter grade. We are proud of the progress of our school! View the latest North Carolina School Report Card.
- Our school follows the Core Knowledge Sequence. The idea behind the Core Knowledge Sequence is simple and powerful: knowledge builds on knowledge. For the sake of academic excellence, greater fairness, and higher literacy, Core Knowledge provides a core curriculum that is coherent, cumulative, and content-specific in order to help children establish strong foundations of knowledge, grade by grade. - Eureka Math is our chosen math curriculum. Research proves this program dramatically reduces gaps in student learning, instill persistence in problem-solving, and prepare students to understand advanced math. Aristotle began using this curriculum in 2018. In our first year, we enjoyed a 23 point increase in student performance in math. Our children continue to grow, the achievement gap is narrowing and parents love this program. Please visit EngageNY, the creators of the curriculum.
- Aristotle believes character development is essential for producing compassionate 21st-century citizens. We use Core Virtues, a literacy-based program that compliments Core Knowledge and enhances the content students learn in the classroom. Each month, students focus on a new virtue and work to actively engage in behavior that exemplifies the virtue of the month. To learn more about the Core Virtues program, please visit the website.
- Data-driven planning and instruction are guided by frequent formal and informal tests. Teachers use the data and information gained from these assessments to address each student’s academic needs. Each day students are taught in small groups created based on their individual learning needs.
- Certified and qualified staff members teach and care for students daily. Parents feel comfortable knowing Aristotle’s faculty & staff are qualified for their position and dedicated to the students of Aristotle. The positive, nurturing environment at APA facilitates an atmosphere where all students can and will learn.
- Aristotle is a Title I school where every child is provided free breakfast and free lunch, regardless of the parent’s classification.
- Aristotle provides free bus transportation to students. Many stops are located within the neighborhoods of our students. For areas further away from the school, zone stops are made available.
